Remember, crimes happen not because there is intent of the culprit. But also because there is a chance to do that. So Beware!
due to lots of friends of mind and tons of people complaining about poorness of the security of trevel in lombok, for me as " dedara sasak" ( lombok local girl) highly doesn't agree with this, so here some advice from me because again the victim have to know how not being a victim.
1. Dresses like them
People Who live all over Lombok is the original primitive lombok ( sasak tribe ) who still not commonly with foreign people, its not kinda racist but its just mind set of primitive sasak tribe it caused Attention will be all over you when you dress up differently, well its common stuff for any places, especially primitive lombok people who still having one weird feeling for any foreign, For example routine lombok people dress using temben ( manual skirts) for women and sarung ( skirt for man). And use sleeves upper both man and woman and use some hand cover, songkok ( man hat), tedung ( women head scarf).
2. Speak their language
Language having special meaning in Lombok people ( sasak tribe) local language is different on the region, each 8 region in lombok speak 8 difference languages, me as east Lombok speak " bahasa pengkura aka bahasa suralaga" and also will having some differences of dialect when you got little move to another dorf even, so after you dress like them, then you speak like them there is no reason for them to have criminal mind they will have assumption that you are a part of them.
3. Act like them
Go to a lombok traditional market or a public place, then Take a sit and have a deeply watch to everyone who pass over there, watch how they move their hand, how they walk, how they communicate with each other, how they touch their friend, and copy everything as your own during staying.
4. Bring a cerurit ( sasak tribe traditional sword)
Cerurit is strong Symbol of lombok, if you have cerurit with you it is mean that " i am a strong and dangerous don't play around with me " it will hold people talk with you, touch you and have bad intention to you, Cerurit is everything in " suku sasak" like every single strong people in lombok and Lombok hero having their own cerurit with their own story, and cerurit having high value of power in the eye of " dengan sasak",
so that's some tips for me, so happy safe trevel around lombok :)
